Boundry Changes

Seattle Public School’s Proposed School Assignment Boundaries and New Web Site to Post Ideas to Improve our Schools

WMS families: you may review the new Seattle Public Schools proposed attendance area maps here:
New Student Assignment Plan.

You have only four weeks to review and comment on the district’s proposed maps. The boundary maps show attendance areas for all schools–elementary, middle and high and are a crucial piece of the new student assignment plan. If adopted, a “phased implementation process” will begin for the coming 2010/11 school year. The maps are now posted on the District web site: Over the next month, there will be numerous community meetings where the District will explain the proposed student assignment plan, present the proposed maps and solicit feedback from the community. In the Central Cluster, the District will host one public meeting at Washington Middle School from 2 to 4pm on Saturday, October 10.

You are welcome to attend any of these meetings. After the month of public hearings, the Disrict will present the recommended boundary maps, including any revisions, at the November 4 School Board meeting. A Public Hearing will be held on November 9 and the Board will then vote to approve the recommended maps on November 18. Be sure that you know how the proposed maps affect your family before the Board votes. Concerned about the big changes to the Seattle Public Schools student assignment plan? Have your own solutions for improving the district?
