Director’s Report
December Concerts
Students are getting ready for December concerts. Students are to be at school at 6:30pm.
Suggestions
Parents introduce themselves to each other and say what instrument their student plays, how long playing. Fosters community among parents. Make announcements about carpooling. Pass out programs and nametags. Ask for donations.
Merchandise
Seat cushions will be for sale for $10.00 for 2.
If anyone makes a significant donation, separate out so that they may be given a receipt.
Treasurer’s Report
Roughly 38,000 in assets.
Class materials donations have brought in 10,072 and have been a big boon to the budget.
Reeds and strings have been expenses but we are recovering half so far of that expense.
There are outstanding expenses for uniforms and cumber bunds. There were many scholarship demands.
Chuck will see if there is any school money for educational outreach.
Uniforms
All kids got uniforms. Need to look at new cumber bunds for next year. The current ones are really wearing thin. Asha suggested that next year we order a truckload of shirts and kids get the size they need rather than measuring and sizing them. Chuck asked if we could request PTSA reimburse FOWM for scholarship uniforms.
Winter Concert Planning
Senior trip
Jon Halfaker was given senior concert trio info and has tentatively approved it.
Trip will be to San Francisco April 15th- 18th.
Need to have a senior parent meeting to plan and ask for chaperones.
Cost $740.00
Overwhelming number of parents indicated support.
Activities will be
Plan to leave Thursday
Tour of Alcatraz on Friday
Fisherman’s wharf for sightseeing and possible cable car ride.
Exploratorium at Calif. Academy of Arts
Tour of Golden Gate Bridge
Saturday competition at Santa Clara College
Sat. pm Great American theme park.
Estimate $6800.00 in scholarship needs
Need to get this calendared and emailed to parents ASAP after official confirmation.
Discussion about fundraising ideas: Top idea is selling grapefruit and oranges.
Suggestion is to tell families that trip will cost $750 if we fundraise $6800. If funds are not raised, then trip will cost additional amount more. Collect half from parents up front. Then remainder collected.
Fundraising Dance
Kelly Barr-Clingan volunteers her band, Banda Vargas.
Mexican band. Sell tickets for $15. Publicize in the Hispanic population.
All ages dance.
Suggestion to look at the Armory at Lake Union and African American Museum
